Future of Event Management After COVID-19

Nobody knows what events will look like post COVID-19. With government regulations changing all the time – and the impending risk of vaccination effectiveness against new variations – it’s tough to predict how things will play out in the next year. Even if in-person activities restart, it is probable that for a long period of time, attendance will be divided among those who are willing and able to go physically and those who are not.

Will event organisers, on the other hand, go about their business as usual?

Regrettably, no, but as organizers, aren’t we more than capable of changing and adapting to the situation? In this time of uncertainty, we must urge ourselves to embrace a new terrain in meetings and events.

Let us take a look at the events that will take place after COVID-19 and the possibilities for reviving event management industry:

WHAT WILL BE THE FUTURE OF EVENT MANAGEMENT COVID-19?

As huge conferences have been shown to be one of the most effective means of spreading disease, many individuals will be wary of attending conferences in the near future. While the virus recovery timetable remains uncertain, the events business cannot stay immobilized. As a result, smaller events with a controllable attendance are the industry’s immediate future.

  • MAINTENANCE OF SOCIAL DISTANCING

Physical distance  will be a headache for event planners in an industry that thrives on human interactions; they will have to book a large venue to host a small number of invitees. A new seating arrangement will also be required in the event design.

  • REGISTRATIONS

Aside from keeping invitees at the required distance apart, you may need to come up with creative ways to register guests at the registration desk. If you must register invitees, physical signage can be used to show the correct distance in queues. You should also refrain from awarding badges for a while. Alternatively, you can request that visitors print their badges at home and self-scan at the registration booth.

  • SELF-SERVING BUFFET AND CATERING

In between sessions, event organisers like to provide a food or coffee buffet for guests. However, catering will change because self-serving buffets endanger guests. Even if event organizers have shoe tight budget, the cost of food and beverage will skyrocket if seated dining is required within a certain physical distance.

  • THERMAL SCREENING

Thermal scanning at event entrances will be required after COVID-19. As a result, event planners should be prepared. The security of the meeting will be jeopardised if the venue is not sufficiently prepared for thermal scanning. While it is unknown whether thermal scanning aids in the prevention of the spread, it is an expected layer of protection. Thermal cameras installed at the venue will also provide reassurance to the guests.

  • HANDWASHING AND SANITISING BOOTHS

Sanitation booths are becoming more common in public places. After COVID-19, events will have better sanitation outside of conference venues. There should be a handwashing station with instructions for guests. Planners should send out push messages via mobile apps prior to the event to encourage attendees to wash their hands. Apart from offering sanitation services at your events, giving away complimentary masks might be beneficial.

  • CONCLUSION

Post covid-19 pandemic, hosting events will be difficult. The risk component is unbearable and virtual for the majority of the event organizers, and hybrid solutions will be the new normal. However, with the proper precautions and the involvement of health and safety experts, as well as guidelines in place, we will be able to organise, host, or attend live events.
